President Obama Announces Immigration Plan

On January 30th President Obama flew into Las Vegas, Nevada to announce his plan to change our broken immigration system.

Mat Higbee and I were invited to Vegas to hear President Obama’s vision for immigration reform.  The 20-minute address was met with enthusiasm and hope from immigrants and non-immigrants alike. The crowd responded by chanting “Si Se Puede!” just as they had at Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaign rallies.

“I’m here because most Americans agree that it’s time to fix a system that’s been broken for way too long.”  President Obama said. The good news is that for the first time in many years, there is bipartisan support for comprehensive immigration reform, and that’s very encouraging. But actions must follow.  If Congress is unable to move forward in a timely fashion, I will send up a bill based on my proposal and insist that they vote on it right away.”

As an immigrant and immigration attorney, I am looking forward to the opportunity to help my family members, friends, and clients.  My advice now is to start by requesting your immigration file from the government. Under the Freedom of Information Act individuals are entitled to obtain their government records.  Any prior immigration filings, ICE apprehensions, detentions, deportations, or removals will be listed.  Knowing exactly what is on your record is imperative in determining any future eligibility for immigration benefits.
